San Diego, California Dr. John F. Shega attended medical school at Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri, receiving his M.D. degree in 1978. He also attended St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in London, England where he received his Dermatology elective. He went to the U.S. Naval Hospital in San Diego, California for both Rotating Medicine and Dermatology internships. Dr. Shega learned Occupational Dermatology at St. John’s Hospital for Diseases of the Skin in London, England, and attended the University in Vienna, Austria where he completed Department of Skin 1. From May of 1985 to July, 1986, Dr. Shega took Skin Cancer Surgery with Microscopic Control at Lakewood Dermatology Group in Lakewood, California, and the Beckman Laser Institute, University of California at Irvine, for Lasers in Dermatology.
Dr. Shega is Board certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is Board eligible in Emergency Medicine, as well as Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and an Instructor in Advanced Cardiac Life Support. He is also a member of the American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Shega has done research with UCSD and the U.S. Navy on a study on Monoclonal Antibodies against Malignant Melanoma for diagnosis and treatment. He was a member of the United States Navy from 1978 – 1986, where he served as General Medical Officer from 1980 – 1981.
