Extensive micrografting and follicular unit grafting have revolutionized our approach to many forms of hair loss. With this method, many hundreds, or even thousands, of your tiny living grafts containing only 1, 2, 3, or 4 hairs are inserted in closely-spaced fashion (as close as 1/16th” apart) over the entirety of your bald and thinning areas. These micrografts, containing 1-4 hairs each, which naturally originate from each of your original follicles, result in a very natural, aesthetic outcome. Randomly-spaced single hair micrografts can create an especially pleasing, feathered hairline.
Why wait until you are completely bald? The insertion of micrografts between your existing hairs, leaving them undisturbed, can systematically restore density to your scalp hair. Thus, the grafted hairs may compensate for the loss of your natural hair over a period of years.
Dr. Swinehart has specialized in hair replacement surgery for 20 years, and is the author of “Color Atlas of Hair Restoration Surgery” (Appleton & Lange, 1995). He specializes in micrografting, follicular unit grafting, scalp reduction, scalp lifting, scar revision, and repair surgery for plugs and minigrafts. He has been an investigator for clinical trials with Propecia for Merck, and Rogaine for Upjohn.
Body Contouring and Liposculpture – Tumescent liposuction, developed and perfected by dermatologists, is now the state of the art with respect to body contouring. The procedure is now performed under local anesthesia in the office with a quick return to work. Newer advances include ultrasound, efficient pumps, microcannulas, no-suture needle incisions, minimal bruising, and extremely fast recovery.
The 10 Commandments for symmetrical results in Liposculpture and body contouring include:
Preoperative evaluation
Premarking under direction of the patient
Expert photography
Suctioning sequence, in exact order
Recording suction volumes
Pinch technique used bilaterally
Cannula sequence with microcannulas
Intraoperative inspection
Postoperative inspection by patient, physician, and nurse
Final touch-ups required prior to leaving OR
