After completing his Fellowship training in dermatologic surgery, Dr. John W. Skouge became the first Director of Cutaneous Surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, a position he held from 1985 – 1991, when he left Hopkins to enter private practice. Currently, he serves as Director of The Center for Surgical Dermatology in Baltimore, Maryland. His practice is limited to Mohs micrographic surgery for the treatment of complicated skin cancers, the non-Mohs surgical treatment of other benign and malignant skin growths, and to the performance of certain cosmetic dermatologic surgical procedures, including Botox and collagen injections, laser resurfacing and chemical peeling. Dr. Skouge continues to teach at Johns Hopkins University and is a nationally recognized teacher of skin cancer and cosmetic dermatologic surgery.
Dr. Skouge is currently an Assistant Professor at Johns Hopkins University where he previously was Director, Division of Dermatologic Surgery, Departments of Dermatology and Otolaryngology from 1985 – 1991. He has been on the Board of Directors for the Association of Academic Dermatologic Surgeons (founding member), 1988 – 1991; American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, 1994 – 1997; American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology, 1991 – 1994; American Board of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology (founding member), 1990 – 1995; and the American Society for Mohs Histotechnology, 1995 – 1996. Dr. Skouge is also a Member of the American Academy of Dermatology, American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology (where he served as Secretary-Treasurer 1994 – 1996, Vice-President 1996 – 1998 and is currently President until 2000), American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, Maryland Dermatological Society (where he served as Secretary-Treasurer from 1990 – 1992 and President from 1992 – 1993), American Medical Association, International Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the Medical & Chirurgical Faculty of Maryland. Dr. Skouge is also the author of 34 articles, 9 book chapters and one book entitled Skin Grafting.
